How to open your pool for this summer season

Posted on Tuesday, 25 July 2023

¿The summer is already here and you want to start using your pool but you are not sure what to do before using it? Keep reading to find out how to do it

The first thing to take into consideration is the water temperature should be at a minimum of 15-20°C (above 70 degrees). If this is the case, follow this simple and practical advice:

• If during winter you maintained your pool

Remove the pool cover and all the elements you have used (floaters, skimmer plugs, or the gizmo bottle). Make sure to clean them well and store them for next year. Next thing you need to do is putting the baskets again into the skimmers, the delivery and suction nuzzles (in case they have been removed).

• If during winter you didn’t maintain your pool

Check the conditions of the pool equipment elements like the pump, filter, pump pre-filter, skimmer basket, etc. and proceed with the cleaning. If something would have been damaged or in bad conditions, it is recommended to repair it or replace it. These elements should be in perfect conditions and well cleaned, so it is recommended to use the necessary products and rinse well each piece.

1. Adjust the water level

Next step is to set the inner water level at about ¾ the way up the skimmer body.

2. Restart the pump

If you have done an active pool maintenance during winter, readjust the filtration duration and schedule. If instead you have done a passive pool maintenance during winter, it would be the moment to restart the filtration system.

Do it very carefully: open the valves, program the electronic box with the new filtration schedule, activate the pump and do not forget to check the pressure gauge (if it is too low, the pump must be cleaned; if it is too high, check that the valves are open and clean the filter).

3. Cleaning of the pool

Start by removing all the dirt and cleaning the pool surroundings, and then continue the cleaning with the waterline of the walls by using ctx75 Waterline Cleaner o ctx56 Netoline.

4. Water treatment – pH and alkalinity

It is important to level pH and alkalinity and assure they are within ideal range. pH: 7.2-7.6 and alkalinity 125-150 ppm. You can use the CTX Test Stripsthe smart water analyser Blue Connect and also download the Fluidra Pool app where you can introduce your parameters to obtain custom advice.

Then, depending on the test strips results of the pH and alkalinity levels, add the necessary treatment with products CTX pro pH Minus (to lower pH ) o pH Plus (to raise it) and CTX pro Alka Plus (to adjust alkalinity).

5. Water disinfection

For an optimal water disinfection and to ensure that all microorganisms are eliminated, it is recommended to do a chlorine shock treatment with ctx200gr ClorShock or ctx250 ClorShock.

6. Algae prevention

Using algaecides to avoid algae proliferation will always be easier than having to eliminate them. And even if we have a well-disinfected pool, a proliferation of algae could be triggered as a result of chemical and organic residues. You can use ctx60 AlgaStop Cristal, that will also help you to maintain a crystal clear water; also ctx500 AlgaStop, for faster results, or ctx500c AlgaStop Power, a concentrated algaecide.

7. Use of flocculants

Flocculants help maintain water crystal clear by making it easier for filtration equipment to retain the smallest particles and prevent the water from turning cloudy. For a shock treatment you can use CTX Xtreme Floc and for maintenance you can use CTX Pool Gel.

8. Filtration cycles

Finally, you must let the filtration run for 24-48 hours to make the water clean and healthy. For more information of how to do a right maintenance of your pool and have a clean water, you can read the following article.

Now you just have to wait for the water to have the right temperature to take your first bath of the season. The effort will have been worth it!
